Arts and Events in the South West

Regional Arts WA acknowledges the Aboriginal people of the South West as the traditional custodians. We are thankful to be on this country and acknowledge the Elders past, present and emerging. We respect and celebrate the continuing contribution of Aboriginal Australians to culture and the arts.

Western Australia’s most populated region outside of Perth, the South West is covered in lush forests and beautiful caves. By Australian standards the temperature is also incredibly mild, with average peaks of no more than 30 degrees Celsius, even in the hottest months.

Margaret River Readers and Writers Festival

Wild, weird and wonderful is the theme for this year’s edition of the biggest regional literary event in Western Australia. Join the crowd and get in on a huge array of workshops and talks from an array of thought-provoking novelists, journalists, academics and storytellers of all stripes and backgrounds.

Understory Trail

Take a meditative 1.2km walk through the pristine greenery of the Southern Forest to experience this nationally unique art-in-nature experience for yourself. Sculptures, stories, poetry and music explore our relationship with nature and the “spirit of place”.

Regional Arts WA receives core funding from the State Government through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and Lotterywest.

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we meet and work. We cherish First Nation’s people and respect their spiritual connection to their land and cultural heritage and belief systems. We value these ancient systems and understand that they are thriving, evolving and will empower and enhance all Australians.
